It's been really long since i posted something on my blog and today i feel like updating it, though i don't know what to say. The latest and current updates of my life are neither here nor there, i am in between the stretch to reaching some 'peak of some mountain' the mountain symbolizing some outputs to projects, some short and long term achievements.
I can see the progress but i have forces that are pulling me down and others which are pulling me up. Good news is, no situation is permanent and i soon hope to be climbing up my mountain with lesser baggage and lesser forces pulling me down.

The last post
Thymoments has been a good place for me to capture and cherish the moments of my life. Through it have written like I never thought I would. Back in primary and high school my languages used to give me a hard time, much as I thought that I had outdone myself in writing a good composition it was only according to me! According to the teacher well it was simply average work, nothing to report about. Wait till I found myself in a position at work where I needed to communicate on a regular basis and just not to anyone but to important people, my clientele more like sell and convince someone to buy through email and this was not only a matter of marks at the end of the term but a matter of bread at the end of the day, I needed a breakthrough. Among others, thymoments was one such way, I learnt how to better put thought on paper.
When I started living by myself and needed someone who can always be there anytime to listen to me, thymoments fulfilled a small bit, maybe bigger than what am calling small of that need. The blog made me make ‘news’ in local press for some extra coins at the end of the month – talk of being able to write a good composition :), many of the goals have been realised.
After a lot of thinking and deliberating I have decided to stop writing for thymoments. While some of its goals have been accomplished there others that I can say are deep rooted in me and i have new thoughts and ideas. This is my last post on this blog, however I don’t want to stop writing, to stop capturing and cherishing thy moments, I want to keep some of the dreams and the ideas I developed since June 2008 alive and I want to keep working on my artistic side, 'potential unused turns into pain' R. Sharma. With the many reasons and in line with my theme for this year, 2011 is a new century for new things and also for a new blog of which I share with my dear followers in due time.
To my blog, thanks. To my followers and other fans thank you too, until my next blog. Kamama

Of my Friday Evening

What to talk about? Will I be interesting or boring? Will I be asked tough questions, or none at all? Will I supply the right answers? Will my talk contribute even a little bit to their knowledge, overall betterment? Will there be a message or two for someone to go home with? Will they discard it all?
I wonder all those as I wonder how my 30mins talk to the Rotaract Muthaiga club will be this evening. As a member and past secretary where I used to attend most of the meetings, take minutes and critically analyze the many guests speakers that we have had and the kind of impact they left to the bunch of young people who look out to the future with great expectations now it’s my turn. I don’t work in those fields that touch everyone’s life like a banker or an insurer or a doctor or a nutritionist but perhaps I can throw in some agricultural matters, statistical issues, information communication matters eeew that doesn’t even excite me!
Much as am not a guru of some sort I think that everyone has a story to tell. Life is a journey and narrating the adventures of it and the lessons learnt make a good enough story. Since the topic is mine to choose and I have the liberty to talk about anything and everything, then I believe that sharing the little bits and pieces that makes me me aside from what is seen on the outside will be a good enough story and more so to people that I consider friends, as for the enemies I pray that they will have the grace to bear.
No more sweating it out over unrealistic expectations, simply me and simply what I feel comfortable sharing. Maybe one day in a couple of years when am a guru of something then I will have a more focused discussion but one has to start with baby steps and has to be brave enough to take them.

Achieved Vs Pending
Today i found myself browsing in my 2009 diary and i came across a page with the title '2009 The Year in Evaluation' while i was reading through the various sub-titles and small point in each of them i found myself ticking either i)achieved or ii)pending. My achievements made me smile and i realised just how important it is to actually write stuff down, to me, it means that i believed in them and wanted them badly enough thus all my actions and energy at those moments was channeled towards those success. The pending ones mad me feel sad, i feel like those are areas that have been really stagnating and there things that i have been writing down in my plans since i cant even remember when sigh! I just hope that i can mark achieved next to the pending SOON.
What was in my diary came from an old Robin Sharma's newsletter and after i spent about 30mins (so annoying) in my PC searching for the article so that i can jot down my plan for 2011 in my 2009 diary :-) i thought it best to write the points down in my beloved thymoments so that next time i can be sure it will take fewer minutes to search for it.
Sometimes it feels like this is a joint blog between Kamama and Robin Sharma, his posts have really feature here! Anyhow...

In summary here are the key points.
THE #1 SKILL OF SUPER SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE
We're just about done 2009. On January, 1, 2010, you get a fresh 365 days. A new chance. To create the single best year of your life to date. Most will waste this opportunity and make the new year a repeat of the one just past. Sad. But true. But a few will wake up to the possibility and do 7 things that will ensure 2010 is the most unforgettable twelve months they have experienced yet. Want to be one of the fortunate few? Here's what to do:
Step #1: Evaluate 2009. Do a written story recording what went well this past year and, even more importantly, what areas you could improve on. Also list all your wins and as many high points as you can recall. Get a clear picture of how you showed up.
Step #2: Set Your Theme. Come up with a theme for 2010. It may be "The Year of Financial Freedom" or "The Year of Work Excellence" or "The Year of Fearlessness". But get a theme into a document you can start reviewing every week.
Step #3: Create a Mission. The next step is to develop a one paragraph mission statement and put it into this document. Clarity precedes mastery so the more clear your ultimate mountaintop for 2010 is, the greater your focus will be. And the most positive results you'll see.
Step #4: List Your Big 5. OK, now ask yourself this powerful self-coaching question: "What 5 things need to happen between now and December 31, 2010 for this to have been the single most successful year of my life to date?" Write down those five goals as simply and clearly as possible into this document.
Step #5: Sequence Your Big 5. Now break your Big 5 down into quarterly goals. Set 5 core goals for the first/second/third and fourth quarters of 2010 to ensure you nail your Big 5. Review these every week. Reflect on them everyday if you really want to win. Make these strategic objectives the sole focus of your life.
Step #6: Refocus Every Morning. Life's job is to distract you. Your job is to stay staggeringly focused on what's most important. Take 15 minutes during your morning resetting period to reflect on your goals, to envision your best moves and to track out a day that's productive, passionate and fun.
Step #7: Get Devoted to Learning. The #1 skill of super successful people is that they are relentless learners. While others are wasting time on low-value websites or watching mindless reality tv shows, they are listening to audio programs, studying books on leadership and success and basically creating a rich, beautiful and meaningful life. As you journey through each day of 2010, make the time to fuel your brain with ideas on excellence and creating your absolute best. Nothing's more important than that. And please remember that all it takes is a single idea to transform the way you lead and how you live.

The Year of Change
Change has been the dominant word in my mind ever since the year 2010 went into labour to bring forth this New Year and up to today. Every year I like to set the theme for myself and review my goals and priorities, speaking of which I still have to re-work my mission statement.
The Lord has many ways of grabbing ones attention. On my first Sunday service at my church on the 7th of January I was unusually early, since previously I had been in the habit of running inside church after the praise and worship session had long began and it was the norm for me to try and look for space to squeeze myself in way after most of the people had settled, I used to say its praise and worship in the matatu and the sermon in church. So this Sunday I was particularly early as I was looking for a Bible study group to join and the groups meet one hour prior to the service.
After I failed to spot a group I found myself wondering inside the church about 10minutes to the start of the service, Praise God! I selected a nice comfortable place to sit and made myself comfortable, I then took my brochure and started reading the pastor’s word and theme for the year, in big caps there it was ‘The Year of Re-Creation’.
I couldn’t believe what I was reading, was I not declaring mine as the year of change, how did the two seem like they were coinciding? What was happening to me? What was God trying to say to me? As I pondered over all those, and what had been happening in my life of late I found myself crying, feeling totally broken and beaten and soon as I was struggling to dry my tears as people had started streaming inside church.
Change is one of the hardest thing to go through and most of the time I find myself falling back to where I had purposed not to go back to. There numerous areas of my life that I would like to see a change in, places that I would love for God to come and occupy but I now know better. For anything to change in me I have to completely obey what He says in His word and I have to surrender to him for God to do his work.

The 2010 Highlights

The lights are out for the year 2010, I sit back today and analyse the year that has been and see how to shape up the new year to be even better than this one.
Today I would like to list down some of the things that made year 2010 memorable before getting down to put down the vision for 2011. Of course there some things that I would wish to see in my list of highlights but unfortunately things didn’t work out as I anticipated but I have hope that I will realise them this with God’s favour at His appointed time.
Not in any order, some are:
1. Travelling and the maiden trip out of Africa
2. The accident that I and my family survived – never felt God so much in control as I did then
3. Great achievement and success at work
4. Being featured in the 'Growing talent: youth in agriculture' blog series
5. Better working terms
6. Moving to a bigger house
7. Watching the Lord restore what the devil stole
8. Maintaining good friends and establishing new friendships
9. Finishing my course work
10. My birthday party and sharing cake with my friends
11. Being baptised again
12. Becoming a member of Parklands Baptist Church
Many more random ones...
I will forge on with the hope of a better tomorrow and a gracious heart because I believe that each and every new day is a miracle and a blessing from God in itself.

Immersed in the Pool of Water: My Baptism
On Saturday 4th December I was baptized by immersion at Parkland Baptist Church where I have been fellowshipping for almost two and half years now. How did all this come to be? For a very long time I have been meaning to become a member of the church, this calls for attending membership classes. For the times when i have attended the service and every Sunday when I see the announcement for the membership classes I have always found reason for not attending. Where some of those reasons were valid, many are the ones that could have been avoided I was a victim of the procrastination, shamefully!
So this time round when I finally saw the announcement I knew my chance was here and now and I decided to go for the Thursday class. The classes run for 5 weeks and as part of being a member of the Baptist church one of the requirements was that one should be baptized by immersion, after the acceptance of Christ. After signing up for baptism and talking to my small sister she reminded me that I had been baptized by immersion years back when I was a teenage, can’t quite recall the exact age in Catholic church and this was after being baptized by sprinkling in the Anglican church when I was about 5 or 6 years, its only through the pictures that I was aware such an event happened!
After much thinking about it I decided that I still wanted to be baptized, yes for the 3rd time in my life. Why? Because this time I felt that the decision was being made by a fully grown woman. It was not a decision influenced by my parents, it’s a decision being influence by me, meaning that I am more responsible for it.
So as I walked to meet the deacon inside the cold water for the immersion and he held my hand, I felt like I was experiencing a new rebirth. God’s timing is perfect and that was my time and I felt peace and calmness in my heart.
“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised through dead by the glory of the Father even so we also should walk in the newness of life.” Roman 6: 4 And the same was significant of my life and my sins and as I walked out of the water my prayer was that I will walk in the newness of Christ thanking Him for cleansing and washing my sins away.
I feel free, happy, healed and so proud for making that move, I am looking forward to being a member of the Church on Sunday the 12th. I am even happier of the friends that I have made because it creates some form of accountability to each other and my greatest prayer is that I may continue to obey God’s word and live a life that is pleasing to Him.
I wouldn’t have thought of a better way for marking the year 2010 than this!

my dashboard in italian!
My first trip out of Africa is in Rome, yesterday i was welcomed by a sunny and lovely day contrary to what i expected, thank heavens for that. Today it has been cold and raining, am worried for my black African hair since i forgot my hair drier something most people here don't seem to be worried about, i mean they can simply dry their hairs in the sun and it will look as good as.
Quick run down of my day yesterday
9.00am - arrived in Rome
10.00am - welcoming, grand and yummy breakfast at my colleagues house
11.30-2.30pm - power nap (too long!)
3.00pm - trip to see our shared apartment
4.00pm - small tour and walk around the city, first stop was icecream at Piazza or something, then went to Pantheon and saw some stature and a spot where they filmed angels and demons, this was the highlight of the walk! another interesting thing was being entered by the lovely music at the many open areas.
6.00pm - back to the apartment
7.30pm - dinner with the house mates, had a bit of an over expectation on the food didnt like as much, i simply love Kenyan cuisines. Eat the famous artichoke (deep fried)
9.30pm - hitting the pillow, for an early sleep

I am not struggling over it

Yesterday was a day spent worrying, worrying, worrying and i achieved nothing, only an emotional day with very little job production. It is hard to plan when the future doesn't seem quite clear but life is all but a series of phases, a time to start and a time to complete, a time to receive, a time to spend and a time to look for more. Looks like its coming to a time a completion and being the good planner that i am i am trying to see beyond the completion however that part is out of my control for now.
My pastor's word for Sunday is really coming to play today. I realise better than yesterday that the battle is already won whether i am up or down the battle is already won, God knows the outcome so why should i trouble my little head! He knows what is best.
Today i choose to do my best and do all that i can without trying to imagine what will happen in the months to come, the rest will figure itself out..

Firing up the adrenaline levels
I have just discovered that I need some form of excitement in my life. Something to build up my adrenalin levels. I believe in constantly redefining my north. Life should not be a boring plateau of same old same old routine and procedures – as they said variety is the spice of life and I need to add in some flavor.
I recall that when I was a fair swimmer I used to go to the pool with great enthusiasm, hoping that that was the day when I would swim all the way to the deep end and back and not be scared or the day when I would float on my back. Now I still love to swim but it’s more of a fitness regime. I want to start learning tennis, I want to start hitting the ball and I hope that this can bring some thrill and flavor in my life.
Investment – I want to start up some business or some investment venture. Renew the zeal that I had when I was carrying out my t-shirt business.
To me life should not be the same old procedure. It should be about encountering new experiences, new challenges, trying new and different things and aren’t all the options available in the world for us to explore them?

I could scream of joy
the best advice i was once given by a former boss who played a keen role in mentoring my career upto this stage and i wish to share with other young guys is to work hard (smart) and money will follow in due time. It has followed me, Hallelujah!
It's a happy day, a happy day, a happy day. I link this to my first post this year. Whatever one confesses with her/his mouth and believes in their heart surely comes to pass. one is really what they say there are, the power of the tongue and confessing good things upon your life...
jumbled up post, but its all in the spirit of capturing and sharing the moments right ;-). Tomorrow God willing i will have intrinsic lessons to share.

Another Birthday - Happy belated birthday Kamama ;-)

I just couldn't resist the temptation, to say it truthfully its more of pressure to write this article, you see my writing grease has kinda run out and now its not as smooth as it used though i still like to keep rolling the writing rollers.
I mean it's June, the month of my birthday and that is a BIG BIG deal, forget about people who say that they don't event notice when there's are approaching and i would like to come back here one day remind myself how it was turning 27!
So the day of my real birthday the 16th, i was in the middle of my exams and never managed to do anything big, actually i had -ve physc for any events. Nevertheless, i went out for coffee and cake with my friends, talk of a surprise coffee and cake plan, i love u guys...u made it special in its own way.
June 26, was thee day. How did it all happen? Am randomly talking to my colleague and she offers to buy a birthday cake, leave alone the fact that i had been asking myself why i didn't have any and i had been buying and organizing cake for my family members - they say its always comes back pressed down shaken together- yes it did for me (sample that beautiful cake in the pic above). Another one offers to bring some brandy glasses, and another one say they don't mind that i have limited space in the house they wanna come and see my new house and celebrate with me. Their wish was gladly my command and i had a gathering of friends at home and we had a memorable time chatting and talking and later on went out dancing.
Crap has happened in year 26 but i tried to keep it together all the same. Am still alive, i can still the sun rise and set everyday, i can still smile, i made more good friends all i can do now is say Thank You God and am sorry that i sometimes trip and fail to listen to your voice. Continue holding my hand in this journey called life and open my ears that i may listen and obey. I pray for a rewarding and happy new year with plenty of love and joyous moments.

To win some and lose some
In May of 2008 i packed my few bags and left the comfort of my mum's house in May of 2010, i am settling to my new and more spacious new house. Looking back, am amazed a what a journey this had been, am overwhelmed by gratitude to my father in heaven because every achievement and every good thing i attribute to him. I have not only advanced in years but in other areas of my life and that is something to be thankful about since i know a number of people who are only advancing in age and retrogressing in the other areas.
It takes a lot of hard, determination, passion and my favourite - a positive attitude. I won good friendship, trust and respect from my mother when i moved out and lost my independence at the same time. Am sure some might think that it's independence that i got and i initially thought that too but how wrong i was, when i learnt that living by yourself calls for discipline beyond ones imagination and so am still learning to parent myself.
By moving to my new place, i have lost time as i spend a lot of time commuting to and fro work but l have won space, peace of mind and plenty of room to grow. I must find the perfect balance and make the most of my situation.
I toast to more growth, more blessings!

My last night in Addis
I just came from taking a loooong bath, felt extremely good soaking my body in the warm water in the tab as i reflect on the days that have been.
Six days ago i made my maiden visit to Ethiopia Addis Ababa, after a long while i was out of Kenya, the change of air, different people, different cultures was all too thrilling.
Day 1, before i engage into those details there is my yellow fever certificate that is giving serious jitters, it is less that 10 days old and i wonder if i will be allowed to travel. I contemplate a lot, among others changing the dates or looking for another one. After a lot i decide to trust God and tell myself that it will be well. It indeed went well, praise God for that!
We land at about 8pm after all the checking out and all, we make it to the hotel - Intercontinental at 11pm, i marvel at the beauty of the room as i eagerly wait to see the sunrise in Addis!
Day 2, true to my expectations its a beautiful day, the city looks nice just very old, ever seen ancient cabs? yes they have them here, blue, tiny and old! A wholesome and heavy breakfast which was to be the order of the morning for the week that am in Addis kicks off what was bound to be an extremely busy and hectic work schedule.
What have i been doing for the 6 day that i have been here? First and foremost a
lot of enjera/injera (still haven't gotten the right spelling as they spell it differently in different places) eating, to me the ones i have eaten so far have been way tastier than the Nairobi ones. Another interesting thing (foodwise) was that i ate raw meat 'kitfor', however it was minced, am told its meat picked from the arm of the cattle the red part of the meat. I only had a spoonful or something and there was nothing unusual about it, my colleague said that if i ate it a 2nd & 3rd time i would begin to find it tasty and i kinda believe him! i must mention the sausages are terrible (for lack of a polite word) i totally understand why we carry them for peeps here in Addis, am salivating just thinking of Kenyan sausages.
Site seeing wise, i have done zero of it, blame this on the busy work schedule however am riding on the advantage that i will be back soon for a real holiday. What i managed to do though, was buy some Ethiopian scarfs for my mum and sisters and some silver jewelery for myself and I :).
I need to pack up my computer so forgive me for the typos. Photos coming soon.

Of International Women's Day
For International Women's Day yesterday, i wished to let my mother and two sisters and other extended sisters know that i love them so much. As James Allen says in his book As a man thinketh, achievement of any kind is the crown of effort so it has to take effort to grow and cultivate the friendship between mother and daughter, sister and sister and other relationship. My grannie, the oldest woman of the clan that am named after
Well, i am glad that the relationship with the gals in my family has really grown and is something that brings a smile on my face attributing this to our monthly get together and other things that we have committed to do together i still wish for more and much more. I wish for us to also be able to share not only somethings but also other things, the dark hidden secrets that still makes us scared of being judged. Nevertheless we have come from far and i believe that we are going far.

While looking forward to next year's women's day this year i choose to sit and reflect on the love shared between my inner circle of girls!
My niece, looking up to a brighter future, the youngest lady of the clan!

The Year of Prosperity
It is the beginning of another year, a time when we set the phase do a dummy or a skeleton on how we want to shape up things throughput the year. Firstly I totally feel blessed to be among the children of the universe this year and am very grateful to God for this blessing.
Last year I was riding on the theme the 'Year of Fulfillment' and looking back indeed I can say yes I was fulfilled of course there were hitches here and there, some events that left deep scars but what is life anyway without both sweet and sour moments! Diamonds are made under pressure and what is most important in life is to learn from our experiences, mistakes as well as successes and use those to become better people.
This year I am riding on the theme of Prosperity. Repeating what I said in my blog the year of fulfillment this is another feeling, an intuition that I can’t explain in depth.
As you sit there and read, my question to you is. What theme have you set for yourself? Its been said over and over again, stand for something or you will fall for anything.

Note from mama
There is this note that my mum gave me when i was joining campus for my undergraduate (The teen's creed for teenagers to remember), that every time i read it it touches the very sensitive parts of my heart.
This is what is says;
Don't let your parents down, they brought you up.
Be humble enough to obey, you may give orders some day.
Choose companions with care, you become what they are.
Guard your thoughts what you think you are.
Choose only a date who would make a good mate.
Be a master of your habits or they will master you.
Don't be a show off when you drive. Drive with safety and arrive.
Don't let the crowd pressure you.
Stand for something or you will fall for anything.

Six basic fears
I don't know why am so much into this positive thinking and self development and mastery stuff of late.
Either am trying to come out of something and i need the motivation or am struggling to achieve something or maybe i feel like am not realizing my full potential or maybe this is just me. But one thing i know for certain about this day is that am trying hard to put a brave face for the world because the inside feels a little scuttled.
From Robin Sharma, to my collection of inspiration thoughts (recent blog posts) and now the latest, this from the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill
In order of their most common appearance;
1. Poverty
2. Criticism
3. Ill health
4. Loss of someone's love
5. Old age
6. Death
No. 3 n 4 really got my attention!
